How COPA is helping a South Carolina Community

Palmetto Health in South Carolina spent $17 million in community health initiatives over 7 years. Now, they give 10% of their annual bottom line each year to continue that work. They do this because they exist under a COPA law, one that probably wouldn’t apply if Wellmont is sold to an out-of-region organization. (more…)

Who could be Wellmont’s future partner?

Outside the private merger talks conducted by Wellmont Health System’s board of directors, much speculation surrounding the identities of the health care systems bidding for partnership in or control of the hospital system abounds.

Wellmont, as one of the largest employers locally and a major driver in the economy, could drastically change the nature of health care in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia with its choice, expected in the fall. (more…)
